Weekend coffee #106.
Alright, starting to get into the swing of 2020, and let’s just say, it’s looking, ahem, busy. I’m trying to be more intentional about the content I consume and produce this year, and kicked that off by unsubscribing from several podcasts and email lists. Interests change, and there’s no point spending my time listening and reading to things that no longer interest me. Why did I do that in the first place? Anyway, as I continue to streamline, here are a few things that resonated this week:
Hello, dream house. Does anyone want to lend me like $7.8 M? I have a well-documented love affair with the south and expensive real estate, so this hits me in all feels. In reality, I can’t imagine having to maintain something so grand, but dang. It would be nice to wander around the property.
Why nonprofits give away so much crap. Gah, this drives me CRAZY. I have no issue with charitable contributions and will even cop to wanting the occasional giveaway. That said, I do not need any more greeting cards, address labels or coasters. Just the other day, I started ripping up such a mailing only to realize there was a dollar bill in the envelope. STAHP.
Robert Caro's Extensive Reporting Archives Will Be Preserved & Made Public By The New-York Historical Society. I had the pleasure of seeing Caro speak at Princeton last year, where I learned that he still researches and writes by hand. That means this archive is bound to be massive and filled with all sorts of treasures for nerds like me.
Forever 35: Best Intentions with Chemist Confessions. With the amount of BS information floating around the internet, I’m increasingly interested in scientific validation. I didn’t know much about Chemist Confessions before this episode, but now I’m hooked. And I feel much better about not using eye cream.
A White Bean Soup Inspired by … Lack of Inspiration. I’m going to be honest. This is the first Alison Roman recipe I’ve ever made. I liked it, simple ingredients and straightforward steps. I didn’t have harissa (who does), so I went with the tomato paste and crushed red pepper option. Would eat again.
That’s it for now. Until next time, thanks for following along.
