Weekend coffee #115.
Well, folks, it’s been a week, hasn’t it? While I can’t compare working in PR to anything close to what the healthcare industry is experiencing, let’s just say, I’ve been busy. So very many crisis communications statements and responses to COVID-19. In the meantime, here’s what I’ve been reading and thinking about otherwise:
Coronavirus: Why You Must Act Now. Beyond the CDC and WHO, this is an excellent resource for learning more about what’s really happening. The time for not taking things seriously has now passed, and we all need to do our part to stop the spread. Wash your damn hands, cancel your plans and go seek medical attention if you’re not feeling well.
What The Hell Am I Supposed to Do With This Shit? That said, on Tuesday (Tuesday!), I went to Wegmans to pick up some toilet paper because we were running low. Nothing. Nada. Zip. I left the store with some boxes of tissues, paper towels and Easter candy. Fast forward to this weekend and I’m wondering what we’ll find if we try and pick up groceries.
We Should Send Women on a Mars Mission. Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming. This article makes a strong case for women’s participation in space missions, from the physical to the psychological. If we’re going to explore more, we should consider the resources used for such missions.
Why All the Warby Parker Clones Are Now Imploding. A million years ago, when I worked in e-commerce, our tech lead left to help found Warby Parker. Knowing about the company early, I jumped right on the bandwagon only to end up disappointed time and time again. The same goes for Outdoor Voices and Everlane. Brick to click, not click to brick.
I’m the Drinks Editor at BA and, Yes, My Favorite Beverage Is Diet Coke. Our friend watched the dogs last week, and I was (gently) poking fun of the groceries he left behind: SunChips, Blueberry Morning, Yoplait yogurt. A real 90s kid for sure. But when it comes to Diet Coke, I’m proudly pro. It really does make food taste better (especially Chinese takeout!).
Also worth your time:
That’s all for now. I’m sure there will be more as we all self-quarantine. Until next time - thanks for following along.
