Weekend coffee #85.
If I had to turn a phrase for this week, it would be “packed to the gills.” I do these things to myself and then marvel at how much I have going on. So after starting more construction on the house, scheduling way too many meetings, attempting to get some writing done, my usual nut-so workout routine and playing a show last night, I’m beat. Methinks a nap on the beach is in order, whenever I can fit that in. In the meantime, here’s some of what I’m reading and/or thinking about:
Freaking Simone Biles. As a mediocre athlete at best, who once upon a time fancied herself a “gymnast,” Biles astounds me. I cannot comprehend the courage it takes to attempt some of those moves, let alone the sportsmanship.
Astrology Doesn’t Have to Be Real to Be Helpful. Wholeheartedly concur. I definitely have more than one astrology app on my phone and while I don’t let the messages dictate how I live my life, it’s interesting to get the third party feedback throughout the day.
I take back everything I previously thought about the Little Women remake. Greta Gerwig is a treasure, Saorise Ronan is amazing and I’m so excited to drag Jesse to go see it on Christmas Day (a gift he doesn’t know is coming). For now, please enjoy the trailer.
A Year Without a Name. I saw someone post this on Twitter and wow. I’m a firm believer that gender constructs have outlived their usefulness but dang, to see someone living that put that in writing. Nothing but praise for the raw emotion of it all.
Another 40 in 40 list, this time about the lessons learned. I mostly agree with these takeaways even at my not-quite-mid-thirties point in life. Good reflection for anyone still trying to make sense of the ever-changing world around them.
Here’s the story of how one woman achieved pay equity by asking those around her a simple over/under question. There’s still such a stigma around money, but I’m not sure how else we can close the pay gap without confronting the problem head on.
Though I haven’t been shopping for clothes as much lately, I was feeling particularly feisty after watching “Knock Down the House” and ordered this tee, which I plan to wear as much as possible through 2020 and beyond.
That’s all for now. Until next time - thanks for following along!
