Nov 24 Weekend coffee #47.

The holiday season is off to a raucous start in these parts, having spent Thanksgiving with my mother-in-law’s side of the family. There was food; there was wine, there were expensive shoes up for grabs. Always a good time. Earlier in the day, I hit the gym for its annual “Burn the Bird” charity workout before high-tailing it over to the “Run Your Giblets Off 5K.” I think I’m still trying to thaw out. Apparently, the last time it was this cold for Thanksgiving was 1996, the one—and only—time my family attempted the Macy’s parade. If anything, the cold makes things memorable. Here’s what else is stuck in my brain this week:

I concur: “How to Almost Learn Italian—Language apps like Duolingo are addictive—but not particularly effective.” Finally deleted it from my phone, just a time suck.

These Black Friday horror stories had me cracking up. Back in high school, I started my only retail job ever at TJMaxx on Black Friday. It was a short-lived career move.
My dear friend (and wedding officiant) works in disaster relief. It’s a fascinating field and often overlooked after the immediacy of a situation subsides.
Putting this t-shirt on my Christmas list, for me and all the women in my life. Sure, the midterms showed progress, but the work is far from over.
